1) David Benioff - City of Thieves
When I'm in the library and searching for some books, I usually read what's on the last side. That short description of the book, you know? So, when I read this one, I had to borrow it. It's follows the story of two young men in Russia who are searching for a dozen of eggs. Yep, that's right. You're interested right now, aren't you? This book is a page-turner, it's funny but also carries important messages about... everything... Make sure to put it on your reading list!
2) Haruki Murakami - What I Talk About When I Talk About Running
This book by Murakami is actually different from other ones that he wrote. He says it himself, that this is more of a journal because running and reading are the same thing for him. He writes about running, but also about so much more. It's really easy to read and super interesting!
3) Sophie Kinsella - Twenties Girl
What's a Summer Reading List without a chick-lit? I've read a lot of them, but this is the latest one so I decided to put this one. Besides this, I'd also recommend The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares, Good In Bed by Jennifer Weiner and The Undomestic Godess by Sophie Kinsella.
4) John Green - Looking for Alaska
So, you've probably heard about John Green when The Fault In Our Stars became widely popular, but this one is my favourite. It's about young people dealing with a lot of thing in their life and just trying to find themselves. It has its funny moments and intersting characters, but just like any other Greens book, the most important thing is its moral.
5) Rereading Harry Potter Books
I just had to put this on the list! I mean, there's never a bad time for coming back to Hogwarts, right?
1) Lauren Weisberger - The Devil Wears Prada
As Lucija wisely said: "What's the summer reading list without a chicklit on it?", let me get this one straight out of the way. Don't know what's the thing about this book (and the movie, as well!) but I love it, love it, love it. It is kinda embarrassing, but I read it 2 times and watched the movie more than 3 (just stopped counting at one point). It is a perfect light read for sunny and hot beach days, yet interesting and not that shallow at all, actually.
If you've already read it (and you are a normal person that doesn't reread every book they like), you may want to check the sequel: The Revenge Wears Prada.
2) Cheryl Strayed - Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail
Amazing book based on the real life experience of the woman who left everything behind, took all of her money and went alone on a journey in the wildness of the Pacific Crest Trail. Scary, exciting and touching at moments, you'll read it in few days and got the desire to try out something adventurous by yourself ;)
BTW, don't watch the movie that has been made after the book! It is highly disappointing.
3) Jorge Bucay - To Love with Eyes Wide Open
I don't care if it is summer, winter, autumn or spring, you HAVE TO read this book. Ignore the cheesy title and leave your prejudices aside, it is not a novel nor a self help book. If you've read some other Bucay's books you may know what to expect; if not, definitely give it a try!
Packed up in an easy digestible story, the book exposes the true processes that go on beneath our choices of the partner, our actions in relationships with another person and patterns that strangely keep on repeating no matter who we are with. So, is it really them, our loved ones, or is it just us reflecting our broken parts on the outside?
You will learn so much with this book, I promise. It may or may not change you (depending how much you allow it to get to you), but it will surely give you some wise insights, open your eyes to certain stuff and make you think.
4) Elizabeth Gilbert - Eat, Pray, Love
Another perfect beach-read. True story of the girl named Elizabeth who goes on the journey to explore three different cultures: Italy, India and Bali, but also to explore herself outside of the boundaries of constructed identity that she was slave of at home.
It will make you laugh, maybe even cry at times, but most of all: it will make you want to TRAVEL, EXPLORE and GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE! And that is the best thing about this book.
(There is the same title movie with Javier Bardem, soo...I thought you might want to see it ;) )
5) Rereading Harry Potter Books
No explanation needed.
Tip to make it a bit juicier: read it in another language. I've read them all in Croatian and English and now planning on getting Italian and Portuguese versions.
